Great Midwestern Ballyhoo

The Great Midwestern Ballyhoo was a multi-year festival designed to bring visitors to the City of Lockport. The desire was to do something unique that differentiated itself from the average municipal “corn-boil”. A festival was created that drew upon the 19th century heritage of Lockport while combining the trendy genre of Steampunk.

Local businesses were involved with a collector card scavenger hunt and as food vendors. Popular steampunk entertainers were booked that brought people to the Illinois town from as far as Washington State to Florida.

Prototype packing was also created for the show and the Twist and Seal was entered into the “New Product” category where it won Best New Product Launch of the Year. With that laurel, Twist and Seal was able to get past the retail gate keepers and find shelf space in major retail stores throughout the country.

Over time, OHDG assisted Twist and Seal in designing, branding, and packaging multiple variations of the original product. It was followed by the Mini, Cord Protect, MAXX, and Cord Dome. Wheel-Go-Camping was a tired business that sold RV and Camping equipment while providing long term storage for RV campers, boats, and trailers. New owners purchased Wheel-Go from the retiring owner and came to OH Design Group for a complete over-all of the company’s name and image.

Wheel-Go-Camping became Wild Bill’s RV and Outdoor Center. With an eye-catching color scheme that extended from their Social Media posts to their building, OHDG helped re-energize the business.

OHDG then showed Wild Bill’s how to create simply videos that not only sold product but would draw enough attention to their business to be monetized. Product sales were soon supplemented through hits on YouTube. Wild Bill’s sales numbers soared, and their name blew past its provincial home to become a regional draw.

Wild Bill’s winning image then caught the eye of a national RV and Trailer retailer, Big Tex, who made them a buyout offer. With OH Design Group’s help, the founder of Wild Bill’s was able to flip a run-down business for a healthy profit.

When a dispute over an Illinois coal mine arose questioning whether it was still “merchantable and mineable,” OH Design Group was called upon by Solution Engineering to create a presentation for pending litigation. It was paramount that the judge in this 100-million-dollar bench trial fully understood the poor condition of the mine when operations were abandoned due to poor natural conditions. Solution Engineering and the firm they represented needed to submerse the judge into the mine from his office.

OH Design Group went down into the mine to gather the necessary photography and video to create a 3D visualization so viewers could do a virtual walk-through areas of the mine giving them a 360 degree view of the mine’s conditions. OHDG integrated those visualizations with photography and illustrations to create a powerful electronic presentation that made clear the mine was no-longer merchantable and mineable. Outcome: the judge agreed with Solutions Engineering’s assessment and ruled in favor of its client without ever having to step into the mine.

Restaurants are tough businesses. Quality food and prompt service are, of course, vital to their success but so is atmosphere and branding.

Stagecaoch Eatery and SaloonWhen Joe and Sheri wanted to open a western themed restaurant in a historic Midwest downtown, the OH Design Group helped them incorporate some of the local history of their location. The building in which they were opening was once the stagecoach stop on the road from Chicago. The name was chosen, along with the descriptors Eatery and Saloon and the logo was built around an actual stagecoach that was to be set directly in the restaurant.

Menus and interior décor were designed around the old west brand and enhance the diner’s experience.
